Av. Duque de Loulé,
It is an avenue with trees in the center and beautiful facades, filled with a wide selection of services such as supermarkets, hotels, restaurants, and pastry shops. This 650 meters long avenue locates between José Fontana Square and Marquês de Pombal Square.
The movement of people was higher there in other times. However, Portuguese and foreign visitors are increasingly returning, walking along the axis Restauradores-Marquês, and they end up climbing this avenue to discover what it has to offer.
That explains the recent opening of hotels like the H10 Duque de Loulé and the appearance of supermarkets, restaurants with all kinds of cuisine, and stores with niche products.
This artery pays homage to the first Duke of Loulé. Nuno José Severo de Mendonça Rolim de Moura Barreto (1804-1875), statesman and, as a cavalry officer, adjutant-ordainer of King D. Miguel. He later accumulated several high positions, from Minister of Foreign Affairs to Grand Master of Freemasonry, even presiding over the government.

Casa Empis or Palacete Empis was a building located at the corner of Avenida Duque de Loulé, nº 77, and Rua Luciano Cordeiro, in Lisbon and was the winner of the 1907 Valmor Award.
It was commissioned by the entrepreneur Ernest Empis, with a project by the architect António Couto de Abreu, and was the subject of an article in the prestigious magazine A Arquitectura Portugueza Year I, March 1908, a palace in an eclectic and revivalist style, with a clear French inspiration rooted in the so-called Francisco I style.
