9 Unmissable Reasons to Live In Cascais!!!

Video made by ILoveGuincho >

Check it out… and Fall in love!!!

Cascais is a coastal town. It’s 30 kilometers west of Lisbon, the nation capital, with about 35,000 residents. It is a cosmopolitan and one of the richest municipalities. The former fishing village gained fame as a playgroung for the royal family, in late 19th century and early 20th century.

Cascais is located in the Estoril Coast, in the Greater Lisbon subregion and is easily reached from Lisbon by car, (A5 Lisboa-Cascais highway), or by train. It also has an airport in Tires, “Aeroporto Municipal de Cascais”. In Cascais Bay, there is a large Marina and numerous small sand beaches. Castle ruins, museums, parks, the charming cobbled streets of the historic centre, turns this village a unique place to exploit. The town has many hotels and tourist apartments as well as very good restaurants. It’s really “a treasure” to live in or for those visiting, who prefers to stay in a sophisticated environment.

Cascais is surrounded by popular beaches, such as Guincho Beach to the west, and the lush Sintra mountains to the north. Some of its shoreline is craggy, attracting tourists for its seascapes and other natural sights such as the “Boca do Inferno”. It is also becoming a popular golf destination, with over 10 golf courses nearby. Surfing, sailing, windsurfing, and kite-surfing are also popular in the region due to favorable weather, wind, and sea conditions. The famous Estoril Casino is one of the largest in Europe. Near the casino is the “Hotel Palácio” a 5-star hotel where scenes of the James Bond movie “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” were shot.

“Santo António de Lisboa”

Saint Anthony of Lisbon

IN Portugal, Saint Anthony is much beloved and venerated in the city. Today, June 13th, is His municipal holiday.

The festivities in honor of Saint Anthony begun yesterday, on day 12, with the popular marches, “Marchas de Lisboa”, allegorical parade down Avenida da Liberdade.  A large firework ends the show.

The boys buy basil in a small pot, called “Manjerico” to offer girlfriends, which bring little flags with a popular proverb. The party lasts all night, and a bit all over the city, there are popular folk festivals, places of entertainment and typical food like grilled sardines, pork leg “febras”, “caldo verde” (a soup made with kale, cut into lint, which gives it a greenish color) and red wine. Listen to music and dancing until dawn, especially in old and very emblematic “Alfama” district.

“Santo Antonio de Lisboa” is also the matchmaker Saint, for the Portuguese people, so the Lisbon City Council organize, in the Patriarchal Cathedral, the marriage of several young couples of modest origin, every year on June 13. They are known as ‘St. Anthony Grooms’.

“Santo António de Lisboa” has born the 15th August, 1191 in Lisbon and died the 13th June, 1231, in Pádua.
